Upgrade of Guangdong Economy and Agendas for China-Japan Economic Partnership

Outline

This research project aims to analyze Japanese firms’ roles on narrowing the economic gap between the Pearl River Delta and the Eastern, Western and Northern part of Guangdong province. The research project is going to produce a package of policy implications derived from the following researches:

1) Questionnaire to companies located in Guangdong province is going to be used to find better business environment of firms in the Eastern, Western and Northern parts of Guangdong province;
2) Geographical simulation model (IDE-GSM) is going to be used to analyze the economic impact of highway construction project on regional developments;
3) Japanese experiences about suburban trains and suburban development is going to be summarized in order to apply the experiences to Guangdong province; and
4)“sextiary sector” approach is going to be used for the rural development of Guangdong province.
