Book Exhibition: “The Age of Silence: Contemporary Thai History with the Writings of Thongchai Winichakul”

“The Age of Silence: Contemporary Thai History with the Writings of Thongchai Winichakul”

Thai historian Thongchai Winichakul (Research Fellow Emeritus at Institute of Developing Economies, JETRO; IDE-JETRO) has had a major impact on the study of modern Thai history and Thai nationalism.

He was a senior researcher at IDE-JETRO from 2016-2019, and he wrote "Moments of Silence: The Unforgetting of the October 6, 1976, Massacre in Bangkok" during that period. He was also one of our library's frequent users.

This exhibition commemorates his receipt of the "Fukuoka Prize 2023" Grand Prize and displays his writings from the collection of the IDE library.

Approximately 70 of his writings (in English, Thai, and Japanese) will be exhibited. We invite you to pick up and read his deep insights into Thailand's modern and contemporary history, political and social changes, and the state of Asian studies.
