Political Economy of the Cross-Strait Relationship under the Ma Ying-jeou Administration(2016_2_40_013)

Outline

With the return of the KMT government to the power in 2008, the China-Taiwan relationship, which had been severely strained during the DPP regime in 2000-2008, improved drastically. This research project explores the impacts of this détente on Taiwan’s political and economic development under the Ma Ying-jeou administration (2008-2016). We will investigate how economic integration across the Taiwan Strait affected politics in Taiwan and the economic transformation during the last decade. We will also explore the responses of Taiwanese society to the deepening of economic integration with China under the Ma administration.

Period
