FY 2016/2017 Research Topic: C-10
Analysis of Urbanization in Indonesia Using Village Census Data from 1999 to 2014

Outline

The main purpose of this project is to review the Indonesian urbanization mechanism and its impact on the welfare of residents after democratization. Indonesia has experienced ongoing urbanization, and it is estimated that over half of its population now lives in urban areas. Using village panel data, which we have constructed from the first year of this project, we will make a quantitative analysis to highlight some lessons for developing economies, focusing especially on 1) effects of regionally different institutions/policies on urbanization, and 2) impacts of urbanization on the level of residents’ welfare.

Period
