Relationship between the States and Civil Society Organizations in 21st Century Latin America

Outline

This project will research the relationship between the state and civil society organizations (CSOs) in Latin America in the 21th century. After the Second World War, there was a particular relationship between them, including state corporatism under the populist governments in many Latin American countries. This state corporatism was also tried under some authoritarian regimes. However, a large number of CSOs emerged during democratization in the 1980s, and the large state itself was transformed through neoliberal reforms in the 1990s. We will look at the new relationship in the 21th century between the transformed states and a wide variety of CSOs that have emerged since the1980s.
