An Empirical Study of Service Sector Development in Developing Countries: Case of Thailand

Outline

Manufacturing industries have led economic development in Southeast Asia. We expect the service industries in this region will take on increasing importance as a result of the rapid industrial development. However, Japanese research institutes for developing countries have not yet studied the service industries. This research project studies the Thai trucking industry with the aim of acquiring know-how for services industry research. In FY2013, this research project plans to conduct a small-scale questionnaire survey of Thai trucking firms. In FY2014, the research project will perform a statistical analysis using the dataset constructed in FY2013.
