Disability and People with Disabilities in African countries - from the perspective of ‘Disability and Development’

In the African continent, many countries have experienced armed conflicts until recently, and even now they still have volatile political and social situations. We are curious as to how people with disabilities contribute to development in their country or are excluded from its development process.
We consider if our findings on Disability and Development in South-East Asian and South-Asian countries can be applied to African countries to attain Disability Inclusive Development in this area. We also examine the different aspects of these countries in this issue? With these questions, we would like to find the common and distinctive aspects in Disability and Development in African Countries based on our accumulated acknowledge and research findings in African Area Studies. These newer findings will contribute to more inclusive developments expected in the framework of TICAD.
