In East and South-East Asian countries, such as Japan, Taiwan, and Singapore, investments have been accelerated and economic growth supported by an increase in saving ratios. We will analyze factors facilitating an increase in saving ratios and change in time preferences for consumption. Subsequently, we will develop a model to explain how saving and consumption behavior leads to economic growth.
