FY 2013/2014 Research Topic: C-03
Economic Development and Property Rights in Developing Countries
What influence does the legal system regarding proprietary rights exert on the economic activities of people? Our project aims to investigate this question both theoretically and practically. Theoretically, we will examine in what way the social sciences, including economics, have grasped and considered the function, role and basis of the proprietary rights. Practically, we will focus on an Iranian usufructuary right on real estate as a case study, and argue how the laws providing proprietary rights reflect the economic conventions in a society, which have been formed in certain historical and cultural circumstances.
