Venezuela under Chavez’s Administration

Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez won his fourth presidential election in October 2012. His Bolivarian Revolution, which aims at the construction of “Socialism in the twenty-first century”, has marked significant political, social, and economic transformations of Venezuelan society. The transformations are so profound that the experiences of the era of “Chavismo” may have strong influence upon the political, economic, and social life of the country for a long period of time, even after the end of the regime. This project aims to analyze Chavez’s revolution with emphasis on changes of political orders and actors, a new definition of “democracy” under socialism, economic policies, and the pursuit of a new international order.
