FY 2012/2013 Research Topic: C-20
Political, Economic, and Social Issues in Latin America

Outline

Latin American countries benefited greatly from price rises in primary products until the middle of 2008. However, the 2008 economic crisis and actual European economic problems have affected these countries. Many leftist governments that came to power criticizing neoliberal policies introduced in the 1990s are now facing a dilemma between social equity and market equilibrium. Moreover, countries in this region have serious social problems such as drugs and poverty. This project aims to analyze the actual situation in Latin America from the perspectives of political science, economics, sociology, and international relations. We will publish two volumes of the journal titled, Latin America Report Vol.29 No.1 & No.2
