Economy of Cash Transfer Policies in Developing Countries

Cash transfer has become one of the main poverty alleviation policies not only in Latin America but also in Africa and Asia. Conditional cash transfer programs, as well as still existent social assistance programs, are prevalent in these regions. On the other hand, the idea of basic income, which advocates the payment of cash to all citizens without any conditions, has become well known among scholars and policymakers. This research project aims to analyze how to recognize such cash transfer programs from the viewpoint of political economy, paying particular attention to ideas and discourses concerning cash transfer policies.
