FY 2009/2010 Research Topic: 5-01
Japan-China-Korea trilateral joint research for FTA

Outline

The joint research on economic cooperation among Japan, China and Korea is based on an agreement reached by the leaders of Japan, China and Korea at the ASEAN+3 Summit in Manila in 1999. The main objectives of the joint research are to provide policy suggestions and consulting advice to the government of each country.

The representative institutes of the three countries are the Development Research Center of the State Council (DRC) for China, The National Institute for Research Advancement (NIRA) for Japan and the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) for Korea. However, NIRA withdrew from this project in 2008. As a result, the IDE - JETRO was decided to be the organization in charge from 2009 at the three countries summit meetings of December 2008.

The study method is that at the first meeting the three institutes have a workshop to decide the study themes, at the second meeting the three institutes will report the intermediate research results, and at the last meeting the three institutes have the international conference together with the third workshop. The study theme of 2009 is the facilitation of trade.
