FY 2009/2010 Research Topic: 4-31
Frontiers of Spatial Economics
This research project aims at discovering the frontiers of spatial economics, by surveying new related-papers, or proposing original new ideas from researchers both on theoretical and empirical research topics. Completing the project, we will learn what kind of approaches or frameworks are appropriate to explore, in order to analyze economic development and industrial development in relation to spatial factors. In spatial economics, theoretical studies have surpassed empirical studies in the 1990’s but recently, empirical studies and researches using simulation models have also flourished. We need to follow broader fields of related studies, such as international economics, urban economics to even social engineering approaches, to identify the direction to follow.
