Globalizing Islamic Banking and Situation in Each Country

Outline

Since the establishment of Dubai Islamic Bank in 1975, we witnessed the rapid development of Islamic banking and finance around the world. Today we can find wide range of Islamic finance such as Islamic banks, Islamic insurance, Islamic investment companies, Islamic bonds (sukuk) market and Islamic investment funds in many countries.

This project aims to study the development and current situation of Islamic finance mainly in the Middle East and Asian countries, focusing on its mechanisms, financial methods, roles in the economies, governmental regulations and the processes of development.

The interim research report was published in March 2009 (Japanese).
The final results of the project will be published in the I.D.E. Research Series (Japanese) during fiscal year 2010.
