FY 2007/2008 Research Topic: 4-12
Changing Management Strategies of Vietnam’s Economic Entities

Outline

In recent years in Vietnam, there has been a trend toward the reorganization of domestic economic entities, e.g. equitization of many SOEs, emergence of large-scale private enterprises, vitalization of rural entrepreneurs, etc. The enforcement of the new Enterprise Law and new Investment Law, both promulgated in late 2005, as well as Vietnam’s entry into the WTO in early 2007, will further accelerate this trend.

Having recognized this trend, this research aims:(1) to gain an overview of the recent development of various types of economic entities in Vietnam, (2) to examine the macro-economic and institutional changes that have contributed to the development of Vietnam’s economic entities, and (3) to analyze in detail their management strategies (finance, investment, networking, employment, etc.) as they adapt to the changes.

The research focuses on various types and sizes of domestic Vietnamese economic entities from large-scale SOEs to micro-scale rural entrepreneurs.
