FY 2007/2008 Research Topic: 2-02
East Asian Regional Model (I)

Outline

The Asian NIEs, ASEAN, and China attained high economic growth in the latter half of the 1980s and the first half of the 1990s while succeeding in industrializing their economies. The economies of the East Asian region were severely affected by the Asian currency crisis.

However, they recovered quickly, with significant help from the global IT revolution. In the 21st century, China’s presence is growing in the East Asian region as well as in the entire world economy.

We realize the increasing importance of studying the Asian industrializing region from a world-wide perspective. Based on macro-econometric models, from which we can get consistent sets of solutions (forecasting figures), IDE aims to analyze the economic structure of the economies of the East Asian region and to provide economic forecasts for the member economies. We plan to set up a new econometric trade link model, which will connect all the member country models through their trade behavior.
