ERIA Tokyo Forum Creation of the World’s Largest Business Space
ERIA, or the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia, is a research body that conducts policy analysis and other research related to East Asian economic integration. Research covers a wide range of policy areas, from trade & investment and SME promotion to human resource and infrastructure development and also energy. Drawing from this research, ERIA then makes practical policy recommendations, in close cooperation with the ASEAN Secretariat, to leaders, ministers and policy makers at regional meetings such as the ASEAN Economic Ministers Meeting and East Asia Summit (EAS). ERIA also aims to develop future leaders of East Asia and plays a role in improving the region’s policy planning capacity, especially in LDCs.
ERIA was first proposed by Japan at the 2nd EAS in Cebu in January 2007, and its establishment was formally endorsed at the 3rd EAS in Singapore this past November. As ERIA’s Secretariat until the institute’s formal establishment, JETRO is conducting various events and projects in collaboration with 15 research institutes in the region and the ASEAN Secretariat. This ERIA Tokyo Forum will mark the institute’s formal establishment and discuss the practical aspects of East Asia becoming “the world’s largest business space.” All are invited to attend this important event.
